Yeah, I agree. Black Dye in particular is something to invest in, when in fact it's just supposed to be a pot of dye to use on your armour

If the price were changed there should be a warning to cash in, and the value should be locked to avoid a price collapse. Then people could re-invest their money in Ectos, Shards, Rubies and Sapphires etc.

As for seeing dye drop as something valuable... I had a black drop recently and I thought "wow!", but it's wierd to associate a dye pot with cold currency... I'd rather see a Ruby drop and see that as valuable instead

I think a lot more originality would open up with 1gp dye. Certainly I'd be busy for many evenings

I think they should stop dye drops and just sell dye at the merchant for a fixed price.

1k for black (since you dont normally mix it)
250g for silver
50g for the rest

just a suggestion.

I would like it more if dyes dropped more often. I have not seen a Black Dye drop yet on any of my characters in Factions. that would help to lower the price.

Sorry, but the market economy works, unless you're lazy. YAY CAPITALISM.

Seriously, the dye system is fine except for a test model addition, so we can see the actual result of a dye mix before we use it.

Vanity and skill are 2 different things, spending loads of time farming to buy inflated items has nothing to do with being an advanced player.

I don't believe any of the dyes should be set at 1 gold, I would like for them to cap at more reasonable prices, that way people arn't punished by the economy. Blacks should not be uber expensive just because there are hundreds of players out there that covet it, and wearing deep black dye proves nothing more than how much time you like to grind, or how supportive your connections are.

I don't think dye prices should be.... basicly free, it is a nice item to make some money off of, and it would be a shame if finding dye couldn't net you any money because the prices are 1 gold, but at the same time, they should be cheap enough for any player to mix dyes for an entire set of armor without spending a month farming (or a unnaturally active week).

I can imagine roof prices for all dyes being 1 plat, which is still expensive to make triple mixes, but not so expensive that it takes inappropriate amounts of time to obtain. And with max prices set at 1 k, you can be sure to find sellers trying to barter them for a little less in order to break higher than the traders buying price.

I'm all for lower dye prices, but I don't want them to become meaningless drops, if they lower the price to 1 gold, than they will have to remove dye drops altogether and just allow people to dye freely with the almost free dyes available at traders.

No. Black dye is considered a rare drop, if it was 1g at the trader, people would be running around with black armor and the drops would be common. Already lame skin 15>50 items are common, no need to do the same to black dye. 100gp for the cheapest dyes is nothing, that is a good deal.

I would prefer them to add additional dyes at 100g each rather than disturb the current dye market.

Agree. More or less anyway. Except the "yay capitalism" maybe

------

Look up "vanity" in the dictionary. The economy of Guild Wars would collapse almost instantly if 1) vanity was eliminated, or 2) the expensive (cool) stuff suddenly was made cheap/free.
If the economy goes, so will a lot of players.

While something in the idea appeals to me, I think the far better idea would be a "Mixing Room" sort of addition. This would be a room where you have unlimited dyes to mix and test on your armor. Naturally, everything would be reset upon exit. That would help with getting dye combos that people like without costing a ton.

complete and total concurance this would let you experiment on a theoreticle level, and then you still have to work to bring it to the practicle level. And the dye chart is nice but silver+silver+yellow looks very different on leather than it does on mettle or cloth armors

That is wonderfull! But the only problem is people would just buy alot of thoes.. and have that color dye for ever...not really worth it, but oh well.

I love the 1g dye idea... i wanna test colors out, and i know their are charts, but are ther charts for EACH armor set for EACH Class for male AND Female and +3 color combo for EACH? No, there isent. Each armor and comob being different, I think that would be great.

I was thinking, from Lishi idea, why not somthing kinda like The WOW dressroom. You can test dye colors, and mix it with your amor, but just to preview. Not To buy and walk around it. Maybe even cost the same as now,but then you can SEE how you will look befor you buy it! Brilliant Idea if I do say so myself.

EDIT-lol, after reading the post above and th quote, i feel like an idoit..

Great idea, make the prices standard like the merchant has.

/signed for the 1g for all dyes idea.

Seriously, if you need a gold sink, you've got your Ectos and shards and even ales.

Take dyes out of the rare drop equation altogether; make them only available at traders.

Look forward to seeing some outlandish dye combos in the future!

Er.. once the initial fascination with cheap black dye goes away

/not signed. I don't like the idea of devaluing anything else in the game, given the relative sparity of items to purchase of value already.

First of all, it's cruel to say that the price of something shouldn't be dropped because you have too much money to spend as it is, but dye never should have been so rare and costly in the first place. It greatly limits how unique we can make our characters look. How many characters have you seen running around with mixed dyes or even just black? I've never seen a character with mixed black.

Riki - to counter your point, should the developers reduce the cost to a "more manageable level" of:

1. FoW armor, 15K armor and all related crafting materials? Everyone running around in the SAME armor is pretty boring, so shouldn't we make those armors accessible to everyone?

2. All rare skinned weapons? Should we make all derivations of every weapon into some matter of green weapon that is easily obtainable? It's quite boring seeing everyone carrying around the same types of staves, shields, etc...why not make crystallines available as a craftable/collector item?

Diversity should be allowed in Guild Wars, but I believe that obtaining that diversity should come at some sort of cost. Right now, if you see someone running around in dyed-black armor, you tend to stop and notice. You stop and notice because (1) it's pretty rare to see someone in all black and (2) you realize how expensive it is.

But that's just my opinion. And please don't assume that I am coming from the position of someone that has too much money to spend as it is...honestly, I don't own one piece of FoW armor nor 15K armor on any of my characters, and all my characters are dyed a boring Burnt Orange color of my own design (HOOK 'EM)!!!!

I don't mind the current prices for dye since black is the only expensive one. I would like to see what the armor would look like in the chosen color without using the dye. Same goes with mixing dyes. It is especially hard to see what the color will look like since the same color will look different depending on the item you are coloring.
I would also like a try before you by with armor itself. It is hard to decide if you will like the armor from the tiny picture you get in the seller's window. Let me see it on then I can decide which one I like.

Now thats an idea I can stand behind.

as for the dyes, I'd be completely happy if they turned up the drop rate by like 5%....nothing huge to upset the econ...just enough that you can play around with them a bit more.
